Sincere wishes for prosperity and happiness to the Cuban people, and for the continuous and deep development of the relationships of friendship between Cuba and China, were expressed yesterday upon the arrival on the island of Wu Guanzheng, member of the Permanent Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The senior level representative, accompanied by an official delegation, was received by Fernando Remírez de Estenoz, member of the Secretariat of Cubas party and head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee. As meeting the guests were Zhao Rongxian, the ambassador to Cuba from the Asian country, and Chinese workers and students on the island.

"Cuba was the first Latin American country that established relations with China," Wu Guanzheng recalled, adding that bilateral relations have "developed happily, with frequent mutual visits of high level officials." He also pointed to the expansion of cooperation in the areas of trade, culture, education, health, and science and technology.

Remírez de Estenoz emphasized that the official and friendly visit by the senior level Chinese delegation is an example of how ties are developing between the two countries. He pointed out that in the commercial sphere, China is Cubas second leading trade partner, with exchanges in 2006 exceeding 2 billion dollars.

During Mr. Wu Guanzhengs stay on the island, he will meet with high level Cuban political leaders and visit places of economic and social interest.
