Russian Prime Minister receives Cuban delegation

The Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Fradkov, today welcomed the co-chairman of the Russia-Cuba intergovernmental commission, Government Minister, Ricardo Cabrisas, and other officials of the Island at the Government headquarters.

The Russian leader inquired after the progress of the health of President Fidel Castro and asked for his wishes for a prompt recovery to be passed on to him. He also referred to the monitoring that he gives to Fidel's reflections, given their currency and importance.

Fradkov expressed his satisfaction for the opportunity of participating in the contacts between Russia and Cuba and showed optimism at the current development of their bilateral relationships.

The two delegations defended the acceleration of the instrumentation of the credit agreement by virtue of which the Russian side granted the Republic of Cuba a government financing of up to 355 million dollars. This credit agreement was signed at the time of the visit to Cuba of Fradkov in September 2006.

Wide exchanges of opinion were raised on the topic of the development of cooperation in the sphere of tourism, with regard to emphasizing the necessity of identifying the concrete mechanisms of raising, in a significant way, the flow of Russian tourists to Cuba as an investment in this area.
