On occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Cuban Young Communist League (UJC), the first course of the Information Sciences University (UCI) is due to be opened in the country's eastern region.
The center will have an enrollment of 300 students from the provinces of Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba, Holguin, Las Tunas and Granma.
This is the third school of three first of that kind located in territories of Artemisa, Ciego de Avila and Manzanillo, which assemblies nearly 611 students.
UJC officials said the eastern Cuban faculty will be located in the city of Bayamo, over 460 miles from Havana.
The faculty s syllabus compares to that of the Havana UCI, opened in 2002, whose registration has reached 10,000 students throughout the country.
The UCI is not only an education facility, but also a productive entity, with over 200 projects destined to informatization of the Cuban society, software commercialization and other aid programs Cuba is implementing in the world.
