Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahatir bin Mohamed ratified the excellent relations with Cuba and advocated for opening new spaces to foster them, at the end of the visit of Cuban Information and Communication Minister Ramiro Valdes.

Bin Mohamed suggested links should be deepened in areas such as telecommunications, computation, sports and public health, besides those existing in biotechnology.

He expressed his satisfaction to his guest at the recuperation of Fidel Castro so he can continue heading the struggle of the Cuban people.

Cuba and Malaysia established diplomatic relations 31 years ago, and in September 2006 Cuba accepted the presidency of the Non-Aligned Countries Movement after Malaysia.

During his stay Valdes, a member of the Cuban State Council, had contacts with the Multimedia Development Corporation and with Malaysian Vice Minister for Technology, Science and Innovation Kong Cho Ha.

He also toured the Multimedia University and held meetings with high Malaysian officials and entrepreneurs.

Valdes and his delegation concluded their Asian tour Thursday.
