Holguin
Several local public sites recently built or reconstructed in Holguin give a fresh look to the capital city of our province, third in population in the island with over one million inhabitants.

In an act attended by Miguel Diaz Canel, member of the Politburo of the PCC, and its first secretary in the territory, the underground passage connecting the Las Baleares Bus Station with the Calixto Garcia Baseball Stadium was reopened.

Crossing the main road between these two places could be hazardous at times, and actually many pedestrians did that at all hours. The renewed facility, including shops and a money exchange stand, currently allows for safe passage.

Known as the Cuban city of the parks, Holguin was also added another plaza, the remodeled Hidalgo Park, an ideal spot for the recreation of the elderly and the young students of the nearby education centers.

To celebrate the 462nd anniversary of the villa of Holguin, local university students also enjoynew municipal facilitiesto be used bynearly nine thousand professionals-to-be.

Other sites opened include a social rehabilitation center, several new stores, and a ward for occupational therapy at the provincial Mental Clinic.

All these works are part of the so-called Image Project, favoring the new image of the city and including works such as the downtown boulevard and the 1545 Restaurant, already popular among locals and visitors.
