Book Fair

From March 5-11, Santiago de Cuba opens its doors to the 16th International Book Fair, the great literature party in our country. Dedicated to Argentina and the figures of the Santiago poet César López and historian Eduardo Torres Cuevas, the Fair becomes, as usual, the most popular event for all Cubans.

The whole city will be protagonist of this great event, but as is usual now there will be several venues for the sale of books and magazines, among which highlights go to the "Manolito del Toro", the "Renacimiento" bookstores and the Exhibition Ground of the Heredia Theater, each open from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm.

From March 5-11, Santiago de Cuba opens its doors again to the 16th International Book Fair, the great literature fiesta in our country. Dedicated to Argentina and the figures of the Santiago poet César López and historian Eduardo Torres Cuevas, the Fair becomes, as usual, the most popular event for all Cubans.

It is believed that this literary event will sell some 800 titles in the Cuban east, but it is necessary to await the beginning of this great party, which will have the already-confirmed presence of several national publishers such as "Caserón", "Pablo de la Torriente Brau", "Gente Nueva", "Camino", "Abril", "Oriente" and of course, "Ediciones Santiago", among others.

According to organizers, among the dissimilar guests that will attend the eastern edition stand out historians such as Roberto Pérez Rivero, Yolanda Portuondo López and Angelina Rojas; critics Virgilio López Lemus, Yolanda Wood, Alpidio Alonso and Fernando Rodríguez Sosa; childrens writers José Manuel Espino and Enrique Pérez Díaz, as well as writer/poet Víctor Cassaus, narrator Eduardo Heras León and writer Francisco López Sacha, president of the Writers Association of the UNEAC.

This years edition of the Fair features a large number of offers among which highlights go to the theoretical tables related to very important themes such as "La Edad de Oro: universo del niño en la literatura", "Crítica literaria: la construcción del lector", "Narrativa contemporánea cubana: una escuela?", and "Literatura e identidad caribeña".

Also framed within the event there will be book and magazine launches, among which stand out "Santiago insurreccional", by a group of authors, pertaining to "Ediciones Santiago" Publisher; "Historia de la literatura cubana "(Volume I), by Daisy Cué and "Aproximación a la paraliteratura", by Jorge Enrique Adoum, both of the "Arte y Literatura" Publisher; "Para qué sirven los jarrones del palacio de invierno", by Jorge Fornet, of the "Oriente" Publisher, as well as "Un leve golpe de aldabas", by Virgilio López Lemus, of "Letras Cubanas" and "Antología de criterios" and "Las olvidadas hijas de Eva", by María Caridad Hierrezuelo, of "Ediciones Santiago", besides SIC and Del Caribe magazines.

The literary fiesta will also develop such spaces as "La escena y el libro", "Palabra viva", "Entrepoetas" and the meeting called "Palabras de mujer"; projects "La Feria en la calle" and "Leer América", the Literary Gathering "Alibi" in the House of the Young Creator of the Hermanos Saíz Association and the customary meeting in our city "Prosa Nostra". All these meetings, together with the sale of copies, will contribute to the spread and knowledge of everything that happens in this book fiesta, which once again will be the most popular event in our country.
