Armando Hart
With a conference given by Dr. Armando Hart, director of the National Office for the Jose Marti Program, the 10th Congress of the Society of Studies on Latin America and the Caribbean concluded Friday in Havana.

The former Cuban Minister of Culture encouraged academics, investigators and students of the region to defend the identity of their peoples against neoliberal globalization and review the thought of the most outstanding thinkers of the area.

Hart praised the event on Latin American and Caribbean reality and also as important promoter of research on the history of the countries from the Bravo River to the Patagonia.

In its last session the academics attended a panel related to the Network in Defense of Humanity in which the Latin American intellectuals expressed their commitment to change the social outlook of their peoples.

For more than two centuries thinkers of this part of the hemisphere have tried to get away from the inherited Anglo-European patterns and boosted the search of initiatives in accordance with the present realities.
