The Government of Republic of Cuba has offered 1000 scholarships for Pakistani students to pursue graduate studies in General Comprehensive Medicine (Equivalent to MBBS) in Cuba.

The Scholarship scheme was suggested to the Cuban government by their medical teams which worked relentlessly in the quake hit areas AJK & NWFP in order to provide medical training to people especially from that area.

Selection of 500 candidates to study medicine on scholarships offered by the Cuban Government has been completed by the Higher Education Commission. The first batch (2006 session) is expected to leave for Cuba in the first week of November. The results of the selected candidates and those placed on the waiting list have been uploaded on the HEC website: www.hec.gov.pk/cuba. The remaining scholarships will be provided in 2007.

Two hundred scholarships are reserved for actual applicants of earthquake affected areas, as defined by ERRA. Remaining 800 scholarships will be awarded throughout the country on the basis of Provincial quota.

Graduate Degree in General Comprehensive Medicine obtained in Cuba is equivalent to MBBS degree, with total duration of six years. In the First Year the students will be taught Spanish language, which will be the medium of instruction in Cuba. Next five years will be devoted to Medicine Degree Studies.
