It was near to closing time when the contingent from St. Kitts/Nevis made its first appearance on the main stage at Carifesta IX in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, Tuesday night.

The clock was showing 11.15 p.m. when the lively group of young musicians struck the first note on their instruments before a rapidly dwindling audience that had endured lengthy, albeit enjoyable, presentations earlier from aggregations representing Cuba and the British Virgin Islands.

Appearing under the stage name "Royalties," the 10-member orchestra, with an average age of 22 years, nevertheless, offered a delightful repertoire, consisting of reggae, funk and R&B music, that received sincere appreciation at its end from the few patrons remaining.
