French song festival in Havana

This June 21, 2007 will be taking place, at the Avellanada room of the Cuban National Theater, the final round of the French Song Festival in Cuba.

This event, that used to be a contest until some years ago and now has become a Festival, gathers each year fans and amateurs of the French song in the biggest of the Caribbean Islands.

Organized by the French Alliances of Havana and Santiago de Cuba, with the support of the Cuban Ministry of Culture and the French Embassy in Cuba, this festival is one of the best options among the musical events that take place in our country.

Its usual moderator, Carlos Ruiz de la Tejera, will be announcing this Thursday, the Ballet Company of Teatro America, that will be performing their version of "J'ai deux Amours". This will be followed by another performance integrated by adolescents of the Community Project "Chantons et jouons en Francais" (belonging to the Fernando Ortiz Foundation), who will be interpreting a Pot Pourri from the nineteen seventies.

Then it will be the turn for the participants of the first round. They are:

1 : Yarina Arias García with "Padam", from the repertoire of Anne Dekoslawska;

2 : Duniesky Bauta Portal with "A chaque pas", from the repertoire of Jonathan Cerrada;

3 : Yailín Alina Bolaño Rueno with "Ma philosophie", from the repertoire of Amel Bent;

4 : Aylín García Amao with "La chanteuse du bal", from the repertoire of Liane Foly;

5 : Ivonne García Callava with "Partout je te vois", from the repertoire of Céline Dion;

6 : Ricardo Gómez Reyes with "Toi qui manque à ma vie", from the repertoire of Natasha Saint-Pierre

During the intermezzo, the pop Cuban singer, Vania, will interpret the songs: "Veinte años", from the musical repertoire of Maria Teresa Vera, and "Ya no hace falta", a song composed by Lázaro Valdés.

The participants of the second round will be the following:

7. Carlos Martínez Martínez with "Sérénade", from the repertoire of Herbert Pagani;

8. Reynaldo Pineda Spengler with "Les plaisirs démodés", from the repertoire of Charles Aznavour;

9. Elsy Quintana Pérez with "Si je m'en sors", from the repertoire of Julie Zenatti;

10. Janet Ruiz Rodríguez with "L'amour en héritage", from the repertoire of Nana Mouskouri;

11. Enma Santos Pérez with "La centenaire", from the repertoire of Linda Lemay;

12. Katia Vaillant Serrano with "Tellement beau", from the repertoire of Chimène Badi.

This festival usually includes a special performance, with the participation of several singers, many of which have been awarded in previous editions.

This year, the Special Performance will be paying tribute to the city of Paris, while the Jury is deciding who will be the winners of the French Song Festival. The performance of the children from the Community Project "Chantons et jouons en Francais" (attached to the Fernando Ortiz Foundation) will be singing "Aux Champs Elysees", from the repertoire of Joe Dassin, and with music played by Saul Valdes and his group.

The Ballet company from Teatro America will be dancing "Ritmos parisinos", that will be followed by the following songs: "Sous le ciel de Paris", a song by Yves Montand, interpreted by Ilen de la Cruz; "Il est cinq heures", from the repertoire of Jacques Dutronc, interpreted by Enrique Nunez, and "Sur les grands boulevards", a song by Yves Montand and interpreted by Pilar Regina.

Teatro America's Ballet Company will return with "Padam Padam", from the repertoire of Edith Piaf.

During the final round, the guests will be playing songs well-known by everybody, like: "Paris au mois d'aout", from the repertoire of Charles Aznavour, and interpreted by Alfredo Montero; "La Seine", from the repertoire of Jacqueline Francois, interpreted by Ilen de la Cruz and Pilar Regina; "Barrio Barbes", from the repertoire of Mano Solo, interpreted by Camillo Mederos, J. Ernesto G. and Trio "Cuarzo; concluding with "Ça c'est Paris", from the repertoire of Mistinguett, interpreted by all the guest singers.

On this occasion he Jury will be integrated by: Ana Maria Barrera Chapman, Director of the Dolores room, in Santiago de Cuba; Christian Lnaglade, Director of the French Alliance in Havana; Christine Leveque, Director of the French Alliance in Santiago de Cuba; Gil Prevot, Pedagogical Director of the French Alliance in Havana; Grises Lince, a singer of "Exhaudi" Choir; Gualfrido Hernandez, Professor of French at the French Alliance in Havana; Luz Divina Reyes, singer and Director of "Ele" Vocal Group.

The President of the Jury is Georges Chapelle, General Delegate of the French Alliance in Cuba, and Tomas Rivero, composer and musical arranger.

We wish many successes to each of the participants at this new edition of the French Song Festival in Cuba.
