Experts in the tourism industry, judging from numbers and results of recent international meetings, look to sustainability as the most solid way to develop tourism.
Putting emphasis on programs that balance the needs of the inhabitants and the attractions for demanding travellers, some packages, such as sun and beach, are giving ground to more active attractions such as adventure, nature and history and culture travel with more intellectual benefits.
The recent 27th International Tourism Fair in Madrid that drew 156,000 professionals, 13,000 companies and 845 exhibitors is an example of this trend.
Another gigantic meeting is scheduled for March in Berlin, where many of the themes presented in Madrid should be further developed.
