Drum Festival opens in Havana

The seventh edition of the Guillermo Barreto in Memoriam Drum Festival opens today at Havanas Salon Rosado Benny More de la Tropical with a huge bash featuring Klimax, Bamboleo, Pupy y Los que Son Son and Tumbao Habana.
This international musical encounter organized and hosted each year by composer, drummer and Klimax bandleader Giraldo Piloto runs through Sunday at several venues in Havana featuring a whole host of local talent and international guests such as Canadian drummers Aldo Mazza and Memo Acevedo.
This years festival pays tribute to the recently deceased Miguel Diaz (Anga). The legendary conga master who first entered the world stage playing for Irakere in the 1970s, and recorded and toured with The Afro-Cuban All-Stars, Ruben Gonzales, Irakere, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Steve Coleman, Roy Hargrove, Tito Puente and David Sanchez among others.
