STRATEGIC Alliances Sports Development Manager Dan Mavuso leaves Cuba on Monday to attend the 11th Sports for All Congress.

Strategic Alliance Information Manager Mphumelelo 'Shobane Makhubu said the congress would start on Tuesday, running until the 3rd of November at the Havana International Conference Centre.

It will be the first time the Cuban Olympic Committee hosts the congress.

"Focus on this biannual gathering will be on benefits and challenges of physical activity, from promoting the merits of sport and exercise among people of all ages in the developed and developing world to influencing decision-makers who can help implement Sport for All ideas and programmes," stated Makhubu.

He added that this years gathering would include thought leaders in the field of heart, sport and science.

They will share ideas and help direct far-reaching initiatives such as the World Health Organisations Global Strategy Diet, Physical Activity and Health.

The congress was launched two years ago [2004] and its main goal is to improve public health, which has deteriorated due to industrialisation and increasing food market globalisation.

The meetings agenda will be to address health benefits and risks of physical activity, Sports for All as recreation and a form of social experience and culture expression, designing strategies as well as directions for Sports for All.

The World Sports for All congress provides an ideal forum for exchanging ideas and experience in the area of Sports for All at an intentional level. The previous congress was held in Rome, Italy, where 1 200 participated.
