Alberto Juantorena
Two-time Olympic Champion Alberto Juantorena assured on Wednesday that Cuban hurdle runner Dayron Robles has all it takes to dethrone Chinese runner Liu Xiang and win a gold medal in Beijing 2008.

"He's purified his technique, a good start, but most of all he is just 19 years old, an age that gives him an edge over his rivals, and his progression says he can improve," Juantorena told Prensa Latina in Guantanamo, where Robles was born.

For Juantorena, who got two gold medals in Montreal 1976, where he was Olympic Champion in 400 and 800 meters, Robles is a great hope for Beijing 2008.

"He is an important athlete, with great perspectives and natural talent," he said, and he praised the work of Robles' coach Santiago Ventura.

Robles is now on the preparation tour in Europe for the ALBA Games and the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro.

He has already faced Liu Xiang, whom he beat two weeks ago in Stuttgart, Germany, although the World Champion had revenge a few days ago.

Robles is a product of the Cuban education system that promotes the development of talented athletes.
