Sergio Corrieri, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), traveled to Turkey on Wednesday, leading his country's delegation to the European Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba.

Corrieri told Prensa Latina that the event, to be run in the city of Istanbul on October 6, will establish the guidelines of the work to follow by organizations of friendship with the island in Europe during the next two years.

The Cuban official's agenda includes continuing the struggle for the release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in the US and denouncing the Bush Plan that aims to eliminate the island's revolutionary process.

"We will request the European friends to spread the secret charter of that plan and continue condemning the US aggressions," he said.

Corrieri stated that the solidarity with Cuba has been rising and recalled that friendship societies in Europe are the longest standing in the world.

The Cuban delegation is made up of Deputy Osvaldo Martinez, and ICAP Europe department director Elio Gomez, among others.
