Cuban folk singer Amaury Perez performed his Remembering April concert Wednesday afternoon to an overflow audience in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The singer-songwriter played some of the standards of his repertory and paid tribute to his colleague Noel Nicola with the song Te perdono (I forgive you).

Amaury responded to audience applause with an encore of the song No lo van a impedir (They cant stopped it), a theme dedicated to "the heroic deeds of Cuba, with its utopias and successes, and its right to choose a sovereign and independent path, and to the Cuban Five, imprisoned by the US empire."

When introducing Amaury Perez, the Cuban ambassador to UNESCO, Hector Hernandez Pardo, spoke of the importance of Nueva Trova, a genre of folk protest song that arose after the 1959 triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
