Latin American Railway Association (ALAF) Secretary General Lauro Ramirez, Friday highlighted here the current Cuban project to revitalize railways.

In declarations to Prensa Latina, during the technical seminar carried out as part of ALAF 42nd General Assembly, Ramirez added the Latin American railway community supports and contributes with the government effort of the West Indian isle.

He added that the majority of Latin American countries favor today again trains as economical means of transportation, as authorities realize its significance for nations development.

It is very important what Cuba is doing, due to the fact natural energy resources use up, so that program will mean a saving concerning that aspect, besides representing a long period vision of the matter, he said.

Ramirez announced that December 7 will take place in Paris Railway International Union General Assembly, in which Latin America incorporation will be a topic to discuss.

Railway Autonomous Institute of the State President, Venezuelan Jose Vicente Rodriguez announced the recent creation of a joint company integrated by his country and Cuba.
