Cuban film wins Glauber Rocha Prize

The Glauber Rocha recognizes the full-length film best reflecting Latin American social reality and the struggle for human improvement with a high artistic level.
The jury, unanimously conferring the award, highlighted the treatment of a universal migratory phenomenon starting from the struggle for identity and based on a historical contextualization while avoiding over simplification.
Cast direction, aesthetics, set design and details were some of the aspects remarked upon by the experts.
This is the first time that a Cuban film has won the recognition that was founded in 1985 to encourage the new Latin American cinema, which gained strength in the 60s searching for a decolonized visual image.
"La Edad de la Peseta" counts on Spanish actress Mercedes Sampietro, Cubans Susana Tejera and Carla Paneca and the child Ivan Carreira Lamothe.
The Argentine film "El camino de San Diego" by Carlos Sorin won the jury s special prize.
