El Benny," a film that honors Benny More, one of the icons of the island s music, will represent Cuba in the 2007 Oscar Award competition, in the category of best foreign language film.

Sources from the Cuban Cinema Institute told Prensa Latina Wednesday, after highlighting the audience and critical success of Jorge Luis Sanchez film, seen by almost 500,000 spectators in the country since its premiere less than two months ago.

Its protagonist, Renny Arozarena, received the Boccalino award for best leading actor, given by the independent specialized critic in the 6th Locarno International Cinema Festival in Switzerland.
