The best Cuban fencers will participate in the tough World Championship in Turin, Italy, where they expect to finish among the first eight teams in the men's and women's competitions.

According to experts, Cuba will only participate in the sword competition, where it has more chances to win medals.

Due to absences from several tournaments of the circuit of the International Fencing Federation, the Cuban fencers are way down in the world ranking.

Among the women, the best placed fencers are Miraida García, Suleidis Ortiz, Eimey Gómez and Yamilka Rodríguez, while the men include Camilo Boris, Andrés Carrillo, Guillermo Madrigal and Noel Benítez.

The experts recalled that the women's sword delegation finished fifth at the Grand Prix in Havana, after a fierce fight against the Russians.

The men won the Central American and Caribbean Games held recently in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
