Blind musicians

More than a hundred artists and seven groups will take part in the 2006 Music Festival of the Blind's National Association (ANCI) to be held December 18-20 in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba.

Professor Carlos Ramirez, technical adviser of the event, stated that group of amateur artists includes soloists, troubadours, instrumentalists and exponents of the most diverse musical rhythms.

According to Ramirez, those artists were selected in the festivals held in the different provinces and that the territories of Guantanamo, Granma and Santiago de Cuba will have the most numerous delegations.

Since music is considered the favorite artistic manifestation for blind people, the extension of its teaching in Braille system has turned out to be one of the main purposes.

Outstanding blind exponents like Arsenio Rodriguez, Miguel Companioni, Frank Emilio Flynn, Jose Tejedor and others contributed to honor the Cuban musical stage of all times.
