Cuban athletes travel to Europe for summer training tour

The 2004 women's Shot Put Olympic champion Yumiledi Cumbá, leads a first group of Cuban athletes that travel on Tuesday to Europe to participate in their annual summer training tour that on this occasion will also serve as preparation for the 15th edition of the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next July.
The sports delegation also includes talented sprint hurdler Dayron Robles; 2004 Olympic bronze medallist Sonia Bicet, in women's javelin; Misleidis González, in women's shot put; and Yoel Hernández, also in the men's 110-meter hurdles.
According to the technical director of the Cuban Athletics Federation, Jesús Molina, the first stop of this group will be a track and field meeting in Lille, France, next Saturday, June 8th.
He added that some 30 Cuban athletes will take part in this traditional tour although they will travel to Europe in separate groups in accordance with their competitive calendar.
Molina noted that their main goal at the Pan Am Games in Rio is to improve on their performance at the 2003 regional event in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where they won ten titles, ten silver and ten bronze medals.
