Visibly pleased Dominican film critics highlight today Cuban film "El Benny" by director Jorge Luis Sánchez won Cemi Prize in the Best Opera Prima category at the 9th International Film Festival of Santo Domingo.

The film portraying the life of the popular music star also conquered the Peoples Choice Award and the Best Actor Award went to Renny Arozarena for his role as Benny Moré.

And regarding documentary section, Héctor Cruz Sandoval's 93-minute-long Cuban-American work "Kordavisión" was very much acclaimed at the closing session held last night.

With music by Leo Brouwer and images by Roberto Chile, "Kordavisión" comes to be an amazing documentary viewers would like to repeat over and over after spending an hour and a half watching it each time as Cuban Ambassador to that country Juan Astiasarán said.

In the presence of Roberto Reyna, Rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo and other personalities of that countrys cultural circle, the 9th Film Festival came to its close at the Library of the University Pedro Mir, permanent venue of the event.

A total of 15 countries participated by sending varied pieces since last February 22, all of them screened at the Cinemateca Nacional, Auditorium of the Museum of Modern Art and University venues located in other provinces.

Short and long-feature length films and documentaries projected were from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Chile, Korea, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, United States, France, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico and the host country.

The closing gala show included a concert by Grupo Experimental Tambores and the Festival directors Omar Narpier and Verónica Sención had the floor to express their satisfaction for stabilizing a dream of the events founder Silvano Lora.
