National Symphonic Orchestra

Classical music lovers in the Cuban capital will be treated with a series of concerts during the Third National Meeting of Symphonic Orchestras from December 16 to 23.

In a press conference held on Monday directors Enrique Perez Mesa and Maria Elena Mendiola said there are seven full symphonic orchestras in Cuba as well numerous youth orchestras.

The opening concert on Saturday, December 16 brings together the Symphonic Youth Orchestra of the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory, Musica Eterna and the Holguin Symphonic Orchestra, directed by Daiana Garcia, Guido Lopez Gavilan and Ivette Gomez. They will perform works by Borodin, Tchaikovsky, Mozart and others.

Performing with them will be the National Chorus led by Digna Guerra, the Rodrigo Prats Lyrical Theater by Conchita Casal and the Schola Cantorum Coralina by Alina Orraca.

The closing program on Saturday December 23 will include pieces by Mozart, Shostakovich and the Cuban composers Garcia Caturla and Gonzalo Roig, under the direction of Maria Elena Mendiola, Enrique Perez Mesa and Roberto Sanchez Ferrer.
