Cuba's Gymnastics Federation (FCG) said Monday it will send Gerardo Medina, winner of the juvenile Pan-American gymnastics in 2004 in El Salvador, and Yahara Cese, to the Ibero-American Championship slated for Monday to Wednesday in El Ejido, Spain.

FCG technical boss Jose Echezarreta said that Medina, 20, and Cese, 15, will travel to Spain with coaches Felix Aguilera and Fernando Veliz.

Echezarreta said that both will also compete in the April 27 to May 27 Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas Games in Venezuela.

Men gynasts Irving Arroyo, Fidel Silot, Carlos Campana, Reinier Villardi and Adriel Quintana; and women Dunas Lamas, Jennifer Alique, Rosmary Brosal, Madellin Tamayo and Virgen Cuza, will compete in the Alba Games, but not in Spain.

The Spanish competition will also allow them to judge if the athletes are ready for the Pan-American Games, due in Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro on July 13 to July 29.

Cuba has a 10-man and seven-woman shortlist for the Games, all of whom had previous competed, and improved, in the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games, held in the Caribbean Coast Colombian city of Cartagena de las Indias. The Cuban team won one silver and one bronze medal there.
