Film Festival
The Mexican film El Violin by Francisco Vargas deserved the Golden Colon while the Cuban production "Paginas del Diario de Mauricio" by Manuel Perez was awarded the Special Prize of the Huelva Festival.

Preceded by other recognitions like the Tiger Award in Rotterdam, Holland and by that of the San Sebastian Latin Horizons Section, "El Violin", Vargas' first work, tells the story of a self-taught street musician named Don Plutarco.

In paralele, he is part of a guerrilla movement and uses the case of his violin to carry arms.

Meanwhile, the film of Manuel Perez proposes a look at the difficult decade of 1990 in Cuba where economy decreased considerably.

The complete list of awarded categories goes as follows:

-Golden Colon to the Best Long-length film: El Violin by Francisco Vargas Quevedo (Mexico).

-Jury's Special Prize: Paginas del Diario de Mauricio by Manuel Perez (Cuba-Spain-Mexico).

-Silver Caravel to the Best New Director: Jorge Duran for Proibido Prohibir (Brazil, Chile and Spain).

-Silver Colon to the Best Director: Alejandro Doria for Las Manos (Spain-Argentina).

- Silver Colon to the Best Actor: Jesus Aranda for Chicha tu Madre (Peru-Argentina).

- Silver Colon to the Best Actress: Kate del Castillo for American Visa by Juan Carlos Valdivia (Bolivia-Mexico).

- Silver Colon to the Best Original Screenplay: Jorge Duran for Proibido Prohibir (Brazil-Chile-Spain).

- Silver Colon to the Best Photography: Martin Boege Pare for El violin by Francisco Vargas Quevedo (Mexico).
