Cuba's fifth position at the World Track Cycling championship, held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, was considered the island's best performance thus far in such sports event.

During the meet, contested by 36 countries this year, Cuban pedalists Yurmari Gonzalez and Lisandra Guerra garnered one gold and one silver to give the island the fifth place.

In the 2004 meet, Cuban Yoanka Gonzalez took the gold, while her colleague Lisandra Guerra took the bronze last year.

This year's championship was led by Britain with seven gold, two silver and two bronze, followed by Australia (2-0-4), Holland (1-4-1), France (1-2-0) and Cuba (1-1-0).
