Cuban singer and songwriter Pablo Milanes and the groups Compay Segundo, Afro Cuban All Stars and Yoruba Andabo were nominated to the 2006 Latin Grammy Awards to be given on November 2 in New York.

The Latin Academy of Arts and Recording Sciences announced the list of nominees headed by Colombian Shakira with five nominations on Wednesday.

Milanes appears in the categories of Best Tropical Traditional Album and Best Singer Songwriter with the production "Como un campo de maíz" (Like a Corn Field) where he included themes written between the 18 and 21 ages.

The Compay Segundo Group competes with the album "Siempre Compay" (Always Compay) including anthological songs popularized by the king of "Chan Chan", as he is remembered worldwide.

Afro Cuban All Stars, the 32-people group directed by Juan De Marcos Gonzalez, has received very favorable critics and is nominee for the album "Step Forward-The Next Generation" sharing the same category with the mentioned Cuban artists.

Yoruba Andabo, on of the island's best rumba exponents, competes in the section of Best Folk Album with the CD "Rumba en La Habana con..." (Rumba in Havana with...).

Cuban artists have made up the list of nominees since the very first edition of the Latin Grammy Awards but they have always been prevented from attending the prize-giving ceremony due to the negative of the US government to provide visa to them.
