Cuban former baseball stars Rey Vicente Anglada and Alfonso Urquiola will be in different lineups for the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, 28 years after winning titles together in those events.

Both were part of the Cuban team that won the gold medal in the 1979 games of San Juan, Puerto Rico, in which third baseman Pedro Jose Rodriguez became the tournament s sensation.

Anglada, who will lead the Cuban national team, alternated with Urquiola as second baseman in the Puerto Rican games, in which Cuba reached its third consecutive crown in Pan American baseball.

Urquiola will also be in Rio de Janeiro, leading the Panamanian team, which is part of group B, together with Cuba, Mexico, and Venezuela.

The two former second basemen and team partners in San Juan 1979, will try to bring their teams to the top in Rio de Janeiro, although Urquiola s path could be narrower than Anglada s.
