Cuba Brazil stars promote beach ball

Two volleyball legends, Cuban Mireya Luis and Brazilian Jackie da Silva, announced they will play beach volleyball on a beach east of Havana Sunday, to promote this sport among young people.

The match is part of a social program, Initiative Building the Future, the idea for which came from Brazilian writer Mirilia Guimaraes and is supported by the Brazilian Sports Ministry and the Cuban Institute of Sports.

Luis, one of the greatest Cuban female indoor volleyball stars in the last 20 years - member of the Olympic Champion team in Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 - is current chief of marketing for the Cuban Volleyball Federation.

Da Silva, with Sandra Pires, won the Olympic title in beach volleyball in Atlanta 1996, the first time this sport was in the Olympics.
