Cuba aspires to win four medals with its volleyball team at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro in July, as told by Cuban Volleyball Federation president Raul Diago Thursday.

"Our goal is to get one of the three medals with the four teams in the Pan American Games, two in each modality, court or beach," he stated.

Diago said that it is quite hard because the sport has got a high increase of quality in the area, because of the collaboration of Cuban coaches in some countries in the region and the traditional strength of US and Canada.

He highlighted the improvement of countries like Dominican Republic in the female classification and Puerto Rico and Venezuela in the male.

He said that Cuba wants to win all the titles in the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) Games.

Diago also regarded the work of Cuban coaches with the Venezuelan male team in the last 10 years, and highlighted the particular work of Cuban coach David Suarez.

The volleyball tournaments of the 2nd ALBA Games will be disputed in Caracas from May 9 to 12.
