Cuba and host Serbia split their two-game series on Saturday and Sunday in Beograd and Novi Sad in the fourth weekend of competitions of the main annual men's tournament of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

After falling in five hard-fought sets on Saturday (25-15, 25-18, 19-25, 25-27, 6-15), the Cuban team downed the Serbians in straight sets 25-18, 25-16 and 25-16 on Sunday.

Michael Sánchez led the Cuban attack with 18 points while Pedro Iznaga and Oreol Camejo contributed nine units apiece.

After these results, Cuba places second in Group C with five wins and three losses. Russia is ahead with six victories and one loss after they downed Egypt twice over the weekend. Serbia is third with an even 4-4 record while Egypt is at the bottom with eight losses in as many outings.

Now, the Cuban team travels on Tuesday to Russia to face the local squad next weekend.

In other results, Brazil continued undefeated in eight outings after downing Canada twice in Group A while Finland did the same with South Korea.

In Group B, the United States beat Italy twice while France imitated them in their games against Japan.

Finally, in Group D, Bulgaria swept China and Poland dispatched Argentina also with two easy victories.

The host country - Poland -, the winners of each pool and a wild card chosen by the FIVB will advance to the final round of the event that will take place in Katowice from July 11 to 15.
