From next Tuesday, October 3rd and until coming Saturday 7th , the edition number 23 of the National Festival of Cinema and Video CINEPLAZA 2006 will be held in different venues of El Vedado. including to the 23 and 12 Cinema, the House of Culture of Plaza de la Revolución Municipality, located in Calzada St. and 8th and the Film Cultural Center ICAIC of 23rd Ave. between 10th and 12th St,.

This event arose in 1983 from the restlessness of a group of young filmakers who advised by the House of Culture of Plaza de la Revolución Municipality they would foment the emergence of Cinema Clubs all over the country. Numerous talents arose from it along the diverse Cinema and TV specialties, such as scriptwiters, technicians and filmmakers, just like Tomás Piard, among others.

This year CINEPLAZA is dedicated to two very important personalities of the Seventh Art:: the National Award on Cinema; Enrique Pineda Barnet (Mella, The Beauty of the Alhambra..) and to María Elena Molinet, Film Theater and TV wardrobe designer, as well as university professor, all this for more than half a century.

The event is also dedicated to the 20 years of the International School of Cinema of San Antonio de los Baños, recent films of interest will be premiered in the 23 and 12 cinema, being among them: The Beast in the Heart, on Wednesday 4th at 5:00 P.M.; Madame Satá on Thursday 5th at 5:00 P.M and The Cadaver Bride on Friday 6th at 5:00 P.M, and A Horseman Called Death the same day, but at 8:00 P.M.

A total of 23 films of fiction and 82 documentaries registered are in competition, and the projection of this materials will take place in the ICAIC Film Cultural Center, from October 4th to 6th in the Video Hall of the House of Culture of Plaza de la Revolución Municipality from 5:00 p.m. and in the Acapulco cinema video hall, starting from 4:00 P.M.

The official opening will be held in the 23 and 12 Cinema, next Tuesday October 3rd at 8:30 P.M. and the awarding and closing ceremony will take place the Saturday 7th at 8:30 P.M.
