Cayman 10 Cuba 10

Cayman traveled to Havana Cubs to take on a select Cuban club side on December 2nd to renew relationships between the two countries for the first time since 1999. In fact Cayman played in the first ever rugby international match in Cuba in 1991 so is fondly remembered by a few Cuban veterans.

The match started well for Cayman who scored early in the first half to take a five point lead. Cayman continued with the pressure and looked certain to run in several more tries, the Cuban defense however managed to stop the Cayman team time and time again just short of their line and so the first half finished 5 - 0 to Cayman.

The Cubans started strongly in the second half after a few personnel changes and came back to score two tries in the first twenty minutes taking the lead 10 - 5. In the last twenty minutes of the match the Cayman players determined not to loose this match launched countless attacks on the Cuban line only to be repelled inches short of the crucial score. Eventually Cuba were caught handling the bal in the ruck once too often and the referee sin binned one of the players. With Cuba reduced to fourteen players Cayman immediately took advantage and kicked deep into the Cuban half from the ensuing penalty. From the resulting line out Cayman drove over for the try bringing the final score to 10 - 10.

It is hoped that Cuba will be able to travel to Cayman in May for the Diamond Law associated international series with their full squad to take on the Cayman team over a two international series at the SSG.
