Art from the future

A fascinating exposition using techniques from the new information and communications technologies opens Monday at the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Center and other institutions in Havana.

The showing entitled "Internal Connection," takes place through June 22 and is made up by printed materials, videos and the presentation of a web site dedicated to the exposition.

Emphasis is on audiovisuals with a showing of the documentaries DeGeneracion (Degeneration) by Aram Vidal and photographs by Erick Coll, both graduates of the Social Communications Faculty of the University of Havana; Digital Art: A New Era, by Alfredo Ureta; and Digital Art: Illustrating the Future, by Leyanes Yanes.

Also featured are digital photography exhibitions from students of the San Alejandro National Fine Arts Academy, accompanied by Central American artists that won awards at a recent event in El Salvador.

The program includes a concert of Electroacustic music and a lecture by DJs Alian Peralta and Roberto Paz. A colloquium will discuss Digital Art: A look inside, a reflection on this art form in Cuba and its future.

Poet Victor Casaus, president of the organizing committee, told Granma that with this new edition of the event, "We also want to confirm our commitment with the past, to which we are loyal guardians and active doers. He explained that five web sites are available on the Cubasi and Cubarte portals, comprising the only virtual museum of digital art on the continent, with the works of some 400 artists from 35 countries including Cuba."

"A look inwards "he added" which tries to be profound, and which grows towards the future, with its reasons and hopes."
