The advances in archeological investigations in Cuba will be exhibited at this Science's National Meeting, to be held October 24-28 in Banes municipality, Holguin.
This northeastern territory, named after the aboriginal word Baní and located over 700 kilometers east of Havana City, is the so-called archeological capital of the country.
With an area of just 779 square kilometers, Banes possesses some extremely valuable sites, namely El Chorro de Maita, the largest aboriginal cemetery of its type in the Antilles; La Campana hill, El Jobo cave, and the "Baní" Indo-Cuban museum.
Teresa Perez Quesada, of the organizing committee, announced that the first two days will be dedicated to a workshop on current archeological problems. The opening will be held at the La Periquera provincial museum, in Holguin City, including the exhibition of a Peruvian mummy.
The scientific sessions of the event will take place on October 27-28 in Banes, with the attendance of a number of specialists from several Cuban provinces. There will be over 20 works debated.
The closure will be in Cayo Bariay to celebrate the 514 th. anniversary of the landing of Spanish navigator Christopher Columbus on Cuban shores.
