Abel Prieto, Cuban Culture Minister
Abel Prieto, minister of culture, called to create "a Cuban repertoire" as a way to undertake the artistic teaching in millions of students in the country.

The, also known writer and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party, assured that this repertoire shall escape from the stagnation and immobility and create a living culture, linked to the reality and to the higher traditions.

Prieto pronounced these words in the closing ceremony of the National Cultural Day, held at the Karl Marx Theater. In this occasion hundred of art instructors, who are going to take the artistic values to the younger generation, were graduated.

The author of The flight of the Cat, revealed that in the country there is a consensus to prioritize the Cuban, but he clarified that "with that we are not going to become chauvinist, because neither Marti, nor Fidel are chauvinist".

Among the cultural plans outlined by the Cuban leader, is to open to the African culture, a very rich source and nevertheless still unknown by most of the people.

Prieto emphasized that the art instructors should increase their preparation, that they should read much more and above everything else, important books, such as the books written by Fernando Ortiz, Cintio Vitier y Roberto Fernández Retamar.

He also called to resolve the dilemma between quality and masse, that some people say that are conflicting concepts, as well as explaining the close relation between the culture and the quality of life and the culture and the freedom.

The minister remembered that Fernando Ortiz said that "the culture is the soul of the nation" and with that he highlighted the close link between the culture and the nation. A young instructor was explaining it the following way: "when I dance I feel more Cuban".

Next he urged the art promoters to "teach music, theater, painting, dance, so that the young people can identify themselves with the soul of this nation and in a way that this incorporation be organic, spiritual and with deep convictions".

The young leader also stated that in the students who have these ideas is difficult to flourish annexationist or cultural colonialist ideas.

As he was speaking to a, mostly, young audience, Prieto called the attention on some individuals who relieve that they need to dress some design cloth to have some special distinction, "nothing is more false, the only distinction comes from the culture", he added.

He also remembered that in the resent Congress of the Cuban Pioneers, where all these topics were debated, the study of the music and the promotion of dance, were included.

Abel Prieto called the students to study the speeches from Fidel, specially the ones of the last two graduations of art instructors, where he mentioned important reflections and ideas about the cultural work.

 

To finish he exhorted the graduated to launch themselves to the combat with passion, knowledge and dedication to do out of the future generations, best generations and a cultural powerhouse.

In the ceremony took part the member of the Political Bureau Esteban Lazo, ministers of youth of Ibero- America and personalities of the politics and arts in the island, art instructors and students.

At the beginning of the ceremony, eight graduates of the last course received the diploma as bachelor in humanities, the identity card as an instructor and a book with the words to the intellectuals, pronounced by Fidel Castro in June 1961.

A documentary with images of the work of the teachers and words of Fidel was shown and at the end, there was a concert of amateurs as well as famous artist, such as David Blanco and Orquesta Aragón.

The graduation was dedicated to the 138 anniversary of the first time the National Hymn, that was made by the musician and soldier Pedro Figueredo was sung, to the 50 anniversary of the disembark of the Granma Yacht and to the 80 anniversary of the birth date of the Commandant Fidel Castro.
