The number of Cuban athletes classified for the 15th Pan American Games in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro this year has now reached 444.

Rene Perez, director for INDER s High Performance Athletes (National Institute for Sports, Physical Education and Recreation), said in Caracas that the attendance of wrestlers, judokas, and divers is still without confirmation, but this should be resolved in a few days.

He said all Cuban athletes to compete have participated in at least one international competition during their training stage, and that the ALBA (Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas) Games has been an important element for preparation of the Cuban competitors.Cuban Dr. Carlos Jimenez, from the Cuban delegation s medical services, said only 10 Cuban athletes have suffered injures in the ALBA Games, and none of them were serious, so their participation in the Pan American Games is not compromised.
