The Cuban flag was hoisted yesterday in the village of the 15th Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the Caribbean delegation has found a good reception.
According to sources of the Cuban delegation, the ceremony was held at the International Plaza, two days earlier than announced in the program sent by the authorities of the enclosure.
JIT sports publication said that the communication with the heads of Cuba´s athletic embassy stressed the discipline and good spirits of the group, mainly of the 22 athletes and the guide, who have already completed training sessions in the various stages of the competitions, scheduled to take place from September 7 to 18.
The first athletes to come into action for the Caribbean island will be the weightlifter Leydis Rodriguez in the division of 41 kilograms, and the Paralympic and world multi-medalist Yunidis Castillo, who will reappear in the F46 long jump, both in the first competitive day next Thursday.
Cuba aims to maintain or exceed the historical harvest of London 2012, where it won nine gold, five silver and three bronze medals and ranked 15th in the standings.
