Cuba cuts budget to scientific research in 40%

A report on 2014, published on the website of the National Bureau of Statistics revealed that scientific and technological R & D fell from 651.5 million pesos in 2010 to 380,500,000 last year, the Cuban peso fixed to the US dollar equivalent.
Cubans searched 266 patents in 2010 against 150 in 2014, the report said.
The number of employees involved in R & D was reduced from 92,000 to 83,000 in the past five years, said the document.
Companies spent only 46 million in research and development last year, compared with 87 million pesos in 2010.
