The Federal Government does not plan to invite Cuban dissidents to the historic event on Friday, where Secretary of State John Kerry will raise the American flag on the new embassy in Havana, reports The Associated Press quoted US officials.
Instead, Kerry will hold a discrete meeting after the ceremony with some prominent activists, the sources said.
The news agency notes that the decision is a living reflection of how US policy has changed its approach to the opposition to one-party rule of the island.
AP anticipates that exclude dissidents certainly will provoke strong criticism from opponents to the new policies of Obama, including Marco Rubio, candidate for the Republican nomination for President, who is of Cuban descent.
