The largest state Cuban hotel group Gaviota, plans to double its rooms in 2020. This was informed by a Cuban television program. The tourist group, which currently has 24 000 rooms, would reach the figure of 50 000 for the planned year.
As part of this expansion process which aims to make Cuba one of the star and popular destinations in the Caribbean, the group will open four facilities in the current year, three in Cayo Santa Maria and one in Varadero, main destination for leisure and summer on the island.
Likewise the reopening of accommodations in Havana provides: a five-star hotel in 2016 in the heart of the Historic Center of Havana with 246 rooms in the old building known as "Manzana de Gómez" and "Hotel Packard" in 2017, with 300 rooms. In 2018, 208 rooms hotel will be built in the central corner of "Prado y Malecón". All of this aims to provide better conditions to Havana in favor of making it preferred destination to the urban tourism in the Caribbean.
