Aquarium of Cuba and Florida signed a collaboration agreement for the preservation of the corals. This is the first agreement of its kind to be signed after the restoration of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States and with it seeks to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge with respect to the conservation of these underwater structures of biological origin.
Thomas Hall, founding director of the Florida Aquarium, was enthusiastic about signing this agreement. "We can learn a lot from them, and together we can achieve many good things. We are proud of this partnership and we expect results from work with our partners to improve the health of the oceans," he said.
Similarly, he said that, contrary to what some might think perhaps, Cuban coral reefs are "in much better shape than our local systems," despite being just 150 km from Key West.
