Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta, leading figure of the Royal Ballet of London, announced that he will found his own company in his home country, reported Prensa Latina.
Auditions to join the new company will be held at the National School of Ballet Fernando Alonso in Havana on 10 and 11 August. The call quotes dancers from all regions of the country with vocational training.
Acosta’s project, who prepares his retirement from the Royal, is attached to the Dance Centre of the capital and plans to deliver a total of 12 contracts, six men and six women. The requirements also include the technical capability to perform with skill ballet and contemporary dance on stage.
The prestigious Cuban dancer has numerous national and international awards. Cuba awarded him the National Dance Award, the highest honor for this artistic expression on the island. Meanwhile, UK named him Sir with the delivery of the title of Commander of the British Empire.
That same year, he was given the National Dance Award in recognition of his achievements during a lifetime by the Critics’ Circle of Britain.
