The German sailor Roger Klüh introduced a speed record on water, crossing in just over an hour 145 kilometers from Key West to Havana aboard his boat Apache Star.
A crowd of Havana Seawall promenade approached to receive the daring former hockey player, who on the date of his 50th birthday decided to undertake this feat as a symbol of friendship that will always prevail among the nautical community and the people of United States and Cuba.
With this unusual event, Klüh surpassed the mark set by Forest Johnson, who led in 1958 the speedboats race between Miami and Havana, in six hours and 23 minutes.
