John Kerry, US Secretary of State said on Monday, despite opposition to the historic agreements with their rivals Cuba and Iran, history will show that the United States has done the right thing.
Hours after the United States formally restored full diplomatic relations with Cuba, Kerry told the journalist Andrea Mitchell, NBC, that Republican´s promises to cut funding for the new US Embassy in Havana and refuse to approve an ambassador of Cuba "just do not make sense."
"These issues have been corrupted during the last half century. We want active participation. When you get to that point, is when you begin to dismantle the barriers," he said.
Kerry predicted that by the time Obama's successor takes the presidency in 2017, it will be almost impossible to change course.  "I think the President has taken an irreversible step," said Secretary of State.
