The independent film festival in Los Angeles, Downtown Film Festival will screen a documentary on Cuban musician Carlos Varela at the Grammy Museum on July 25.
The documentary by Canadian filmmaker Ron Chapman is called "The poet of Havana". Two concerts at the National Theatre of Havana serve as a starting point to tell and celebrate 30 years of Varela´s career.
Musicians like Juan and Samuel Formell, José Luis Cortés, Alexander Abreu, Jackson Browne, Ivan Lins, Luis Enrique, Eduardo Cabra, X Alfonso and Diana Fuentes share space in this film production.
Also, the film features interviews with figures from film, theater, television, radio, literature and academia, and the context of a post revolution generation that saw their concerns and expectations materialized in Varela’s songs.
To the presentation at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles attend Carlos Varela, the film's director and producers, as well as American musician Jackson Browne and the famous Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro.
