Pope Francis to Cuba as a messenger of "reconciliation and peace"
Pope Francis will visit Cuba from September 19 to 22 as "messenger of mercy" to promote "reconciliation and peace" of the island with the United States and among Cubans, said on Monday the Catholic Bishops of Cuba in a message.
Francis was a mediator in the secret talks held by Havana and Washington to end half a century of rupture and antagonism, which resulted in a process to restore relations announced on December 17 by presidents Barack Obama and Raul Castro
Cuban bishops said "it is much and too important what he has done, as universal Pastor of the Church, in the search for reconciliation and peace among all peoples of the earth. In September, Cuba and Brazil will be the only two countries in the world that have the privilege of being visited by three popes. And we consider it a blessing that the Lord sends us.”
