Raul Castro´s government has asked the United States to allow the French- Cuban group Havana Club to sell in US territory, claiming that the ban on imports of its product violates the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Cuba could, in theory, apply for authorization to perceive retaliatory levy on imports of United States but, given the scarcity of trade between the US and Cuba, it is believed to be unlikely.
United States so far supports the rights of Bacardi to sell Havana Club on US soil since the ruling regime in the island took over since 1959 the family business that was an icon in the island's history and began to market the product under the name Havana Club.
