The United States House Committee on Appropriations approved on Thursday a bill that blocks the use of funds for the reopening of a hypothetical US embassy in Cuba, in a Republican attempt to undermine the current rapprochement between the island and Obama’s Administration.
The freezing of funds for a possible Embassy in Cuba is contained in the draft budget law for the State Department and foreign operations for the fiscal year 2016, which was approved by voice vote.
In addition to blocking the funds to the embassy in Cuba, the law is seen as a "punishment" of the Republican Party to the foreign policy of President Obama, as the total budget stands at $ 48.000 million, well below than what the White House and the Democrats asked.
